Letter from the GCYFL President Bennett Gill regarding the cancellation of the 2020 GCYFL Season:
GCYFL Families:
Due to the current State
restrictions on youth sports, general social distancing requirements
and other health precautions, which include the closures of all parks
and the inability to rent high school facilities, along with the
decision on Monday by CIF to postpone all Fall High School sports
until the second semester, January 2021, it is with great regret and
disappointment that the GCYFL is officially cancelling our 2020 Fall
Football Season. Based on the information at hand, this is the
correct decision for the safety and health of our players and
families.
As December nears, we will review
the pandemic conditions and field availability options and research
the possibility of hosting a winter Football Season; January thru
April. We do not know what this season will look like, but all
options are on the table at this time, and we will be thoroughly
addressing these options with more scrutiny in November and December.
The GCYFL
Executive Board and its 20 Chapter Presidents want to thank you for
your patience and understanding these past several months. We, as a
board, worked hard, and exhaust all options available to us, with the
intent to try and make this season come together in a safe and
productive environment for all involved.
Bennett Gill
GCYFL President

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE SPYFL PRESIDENT
The health and well-being especially that of our Cardinal family are extremely important to us at SPYFL. Our league Executive Board has made a decision to cancel conditioning and live registrations until further notice. Online registrations is now open. You can register at spyflfootball.org.
Welcome to Santa Paula Youth Football League 2020 Season
First of all, I would like to welcome everyone to our 2020 SPYFL season. Like every season, I look forward to working with you and your child and know that as always, I will need your help in making this another positive year and experience for all of these young athletes.
SPYFL’s goals are to keep our children off the streets by keeping them involved in the sport. We will teach these young athletes the fundamentals of the game the of football and have fun in the process. Our staff’s goal is to be tough on them without being negative in any way. I believe we can accomplish this by obtaining the parents support and working together.
Following the rules and displaying good sportsmanship will be of importance. Being a team player in the sport will be enforced and hopefully will be instilled with them in the future. Our commitment is to be fair to all and will give every player an opportunity to succeed. I feel that competition is important, and that bar will rise as they move onto the various teams within the league right on through to High School football.
I also expect every player to play on both sides of the ball (offense and defense) as felt necessary by the coaching staff. We will do our best to put each athlete in a position that will benefit the team the greatest in our opinion. We want them to have both confidence and success no matter where we place them. We will be fair and there will no favoritism I assure you.
Winning is the least important goal, and this fact may shock some of you, but I will not sacrifice one of my more important goals to accomplish getting a win. If we lose a game because we played a weaker or less experienced player a fair amount of time, then so be it! The easiest way to learn while enjoying this game is to be out on the field during live competition. We will win and lose as one team! Finger pointing will not be tolerated when a teammate makes a mistake. When we line up after the completion of the game to shake hands with the opponent, we will congratulate them the same way win or lose with the best of sportsmanship regardless to how they treat us.
I hope that you enjoy seeing your child out there in the field wearing the Santa Paula Youth Football Cardinal Colors with such pride as much as I do. I am very proud of our small town but most important I’m very humbled to be allowed to represent SPFYL as their President one more year. Again, I would like to thank you for keeping your child local, for continuing to believe in our little town of Santa Paula, believing in us the SPFYL staff, and most important believing in your child to do well here in their home town.
Finally, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all of the SPYFL volunteers and parents, please know that without your help this would not be possible.
Sincerely,
SPYFL President Gabe Luna
